One Piece is a Japanese manga series which has been written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. The manga has been serialized in Shueisha’s shonen manga magazine named Weekly shonen jump since July 2017. There have been 103 tankobon volumes as of August 2022. The manga revolves around a boy named Money D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained rubberlike properties after he ate a Devil Fruit. Luffy along with his pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, explore the Grand Line in search of the deceased king of the pirates Gol D.Roger’s treasure which is known as “One Piece” in order so that he can become the next king of the pirates.
One Piece has received accolades for its storytelling, art, characterization, and wit. It has won numerous awards and is regarded as one of the best manga of all time by critics, reviewers, and readers. Several volumes of the manga have set publishing records, including the largest first print run of any book in Japan. There is a Guinness World Record in One Piece’s name as well, it holds it for “the most copies published for the same comic book series that too by a single author” in 2015 and 2022 both
One Piece features a very long list of loveable protagonists, there are various other characters that have ambiguous stances too. Katakuri is another such character who is pretty popular in One Piece, he has a very short screen time, and many fans keep wondering if he will make a comeback in One Piece or not.
Katakuri’s return has not been confirmed in the One Piece manga, but the One Piece staff teased his return on TikTok during a sneak peek of the One Piece: Red film. If Katakuri does return, it is unclear whether he will play the role of a villain seeking vengeance or an ally who will aid Luffy during the final battle.
While fans haven’t seen Katakuri in a long time, many are anticipating a return – and also simultaneously speculating on how Katakuri might appear in One Piece in the future. Charlette Katakuri is the leader of this crew and has proven to be a significant obstacle for Luffy and the Straw Hats. This character was definitely one of the most intriguing and strange additions to the storyline, owing to the fact that he had a super high bounty and an odd relationship with Luffy himself. This character can use all three types of Haki, making him unique in the One Piece world, and the battle that Katakuri had with Luffy was also a pivotal point in the overall storyline.
During Luffy’s and Katakuri’s battle, his ability to use Future Sight was awakened, and it means that Katakuri had a huge role in impacting Luffy’s fighting skills.

Will Katakuri come back in One Piece?
Katakuri’s fight with Luffy revealed that these two fighters had a strange rivalry, but it was defined by a certain level of respect. His peculiar personality and non-villainous attitude toward Luffy have made him a fairly unique and popular minor character in One Piece – it didn’t take long for fans to want him back in action. One of the most important aspects of fighting and battles in the One Piece saga is that the losing opponent is rarely killed. It’s not uncommon for one of the competitors to simply walk away with injuries, with no confirmed deaths to prove victory.
This is the case with Katakuri, as he was not mortally wounded and no evidence suggests he died. While it hasn’t been confirmed, One Piece author and series creator Eiichiro Oda appears to enjoy leaving open-ended plots that allow antagonists, protagonists, or anyone in between to make a surprise return.

It is also being said that Katakuri will make a comeback in the movie too, it might be a small appearance of sorts, but this would be the first time we would be seeing him since the last time in The Whole cake island arc.

Allowing the characters to return just at the right time or at the wrong moment, really opens up a world of potential for a lot of future chapters and episodes. How can Katakuri come back in one piece?
Because Katakuri’s relationship with Luffy is still somewhat ambiguous, there is a lot of speculation about what kind of role he might play if he returns, and the debate around this is huge. Some believe he would be hell-bent on vengeance, while others believe Katakuri and Luffy share an unspoken bond that only the two of them seem to understand. But things appear to be changing, especially since Katakuri’s mother, Big Mom, joined forces with Kaido to exact revenge on Luffy. Given that Katakuri was defeated by Luffy and Monkey’s Gear Four abilities but is an odd character to begin with, we can only speculate on what he thinks about the War for Wano arc’s conclusion or what plans he has in store for the One Piece protagonists.
Katakuri’s revenge on Luffy
The only thing that matters here and is significantly important is that Big Mom is clearly determined to take her revenge on Luffy and the Straw Hats, and Katakuri is probably on board for this as well. It’s understandable for Katakuri to want vengeance after being badly defeated by Luffy, and Katakuri’s return could spell trouble for our beloved heroes.
Some fans believe that if Big Mom emerged from the island unscathed, or at least undefeated, it would easily pave the way for Katakuri to return with a similar stance. However, Katakuri may not have accompanied the Charlotte Family when Big Mom invaded Wano, which could have a significant impact on the outcome.
Katakuri and Luffy together?
Many people believe that if Katakuri were to make a surprise appearance later in One Piece’s storyline, it would most likely revolve around some more complex situations. Many fans believe that Katakuri will appear not to defeat Luffy, but to act as an ally, assisting Luffy and the crew, and if this were to happen, it would be very surprising. According to many One Piece fans, Katakuri and Luffy owe each other something strange because of the way they fought each other with honour and respect. Many fans believe that he may no longer play the same antagonistic role that he did previously. Although he is not an official ally, he may be perceived as something new – which could make for an amazing plot twist!
There are so many possibilities for this character and his comeback that determining the most likely scenario is not only debatable but also quite difficult. Some fans also believe that he could betray Big Mom and take over her place, and some also believe that he may come back in the final showdown and then just guard the island while Big Mom is not around.
Having said that, given the light shed at the end of Luffy and Katakuri’s honourable and respectful battle, things may not be as clear-cut as they were before, and this is also part of the reason why there are a lot of speculations.
