Sanditon tells the story of the impulsive, lively, and unorthodox Charlotte Heywood, played by Williams, and her tumultuous romance with the attractive Sidney Parker, played by James, written only months before Jane Austen’s death in 1817. Charlotte is exposed to the intrigues and dalliances of a seaside town on the rise after a chance accident moves her from her rural village of Willingdon to a would-be coastal resort.
The story transports viewers from the West Indies to London’s seedy back alleys, revealing each character’s hidden intentions as Charlotte discovers herself and eventually finds love.

The show was originally canceled in 2019, but it was reinstated thanks to fan support and high ratings on PBS. The show was given a two-season extension by PBS. Second-run rights for seasons 2 and 3 have been granted to BritBox, ITV, and the BBC’s streaming platform.

On March 20, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET, Season 2 of Sanditon premiered. Seasons 2 and 3 of Sanditon were shot in rapid succession. So, It is expected that the third season will be aired in 2023.
What will be the new plot for season 3 of Sanditon?
Season 2 continues Jane Austen’s unfinished story, examining the traditional dilemma of how independent-minded young women can navigate patriarchal Regency-era England. Love and marriage are top of mind for some women in society, such as Charlotte’s sister Alison.
Others, particularly Charlotte and Georgiana, have conflicting thoughts about marriage. A number of enticing newcomers, including some military soldiers settling into town, are also introduced in the current season. Young officers traveled around the country with their forces during the Napoleonic Wars, offering suitable women with dashing dance companions and potential matches.

In the new season of Sanditon, there’s a seductive encampment of potential husbands and heartbreakers. Season 2 is chock-full of other goodies as well as insightful social satire, such as a tale based on real-life events regarding a sugar boycott (headed by the fiery Georgiana).

Every Sunday at 9:00 p.m., PBS is broadcasting Sanditon Season 2. You can view all of the prior episodes including season 1 on Amazon Prime or on PBS if you purchase a passport membership. The second co-producer is Britbox UK (the BBC and ITV subscription streaming service), which will be allowed to air season 3 as BritBox Originals in the UK.
